Slow Cooker Italian Bolognese

  • 500 grams beef mince
  • 1 onion – roughly chopped
  • 1 carrot – roughly chopped
  • 1 red capsicum – roughly chopped
  • 6 garlic cloves
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 700gram passata
  • 3 400gram tinned tomatoes
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 bunch basil
  • parmesan


  • Blitz onion, carrot, capsicum and garlic in a food processor.
  • Heat oil in a large pan on medium heat. Add the mixture to the pan and cook for 5 minutes. Add mince, breaking up with a fork or whisk, and brown all over.
  • Transfer to the slow cooker, Add passata, tomatoes, salt, sugar and pepper. Cook on low for 8 hours (or high for 4).
  • Stir through basil, toss though pasta and cover with parmesan.

Tips and Variations

Serve with garden salad or steamed vegetables and crusty bread to mop up the sauce.
Vegetarian – Omit mince, this is a beautiful rich tomato sugo without the mince.
